For example, when we rolled out our Sidecar-based System Call Auditing using eBPF, a small team led the initiative end-to-end from architecture and development to testing and refinement taking full responsibility for technical and business outcomes. That’s ownership in action.

One engineer working on a eBPF-based file I/O monitoring solution proposed a new way to reduce memory overhead. The idea was unconventional but backed by logic and data. Instead of being overruled, the idea was tested, and it worked. That freedom to think independently led to a smarter, leaner solution. 

Accountability Mechanisms That Keep Us Grounded 

While we trust our teams, accountability remains critical. That’s why we use clear goals, peer reviews, demo days, and retrospectives to track progress and measure impact. Individuals are expected to not only deliver but also communicate openly, what’s working, what’s stuck, and what’s next. 

Managers at Benison play a key role in this process, not by demanding updates, but by enabling clarity. They remove blockers, provide context, and offer feedback that helps teams self-correct and grow. 

Projects That Thrive on Empowered Engineers 

Many of our impactful projects have been steered by engineers who stepped up. In one case, a team working on L4 VPN performance optimization re-architected the VPN manager to run on a multicore-aware web server. The result? A 160% improvement in throughput, achieved without being asked, simply because the team saw a better way. 

Another team working on clipboard activity monitoring using eBPF introduced a more secure event-tracing model to improve threat detection accuracy. Their solution became a new internal benchmark.
